# Project #95526 - unit 2

1.    Ordering a pizza with a group of friends often leads to a heated argument! With so many toppings available the number of possible pizzas is countless - or is it?

Complete the following table showing the relationship between the
number of toppings available for a pizza, and the total number of possible pizzas. Remember, you may choose to use none, some, or all of the available toppings. Justify each answer for entries up to 5 available toppings. This first couple of entries are done for you.
(5 marks)

 No. of Available Toppings No. of Different Pizzas 0 1 1 2 2 3 4 5 6 7 8

a.    Graph the data from your table.  If you use technology to create your graph (e.g. Excel) include a screen shot or printed graph. (3 marks)

b.    What type of function is represented by the data above? Justify your answer. (2 marks)

2. Raid your younger sibling's Halloween treats!!

Toss 100 M&M's and remove (eat) all of the ‘heads’ (candies with the "M&M" showing). Record the number of M&M's which remain. Toss the remaining M&M's, and again, remove (eat) all of the "heads". Record the number of M&M's which remain. Repeat this process until all M&M's have been removed (or eaten).

**You may also perform this experiment using coins. ** (But, please, don't eat the coins!!) (1 mark)

 Trial Number No. of M&M's Tossed 1 100 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10

a.    Graph the data and draw a smooth curve through the points. (3 marks)

b.    Explain why this data can be modelled by an exponential function. (2 marks)

c.    State the domain and range for this situation. (2  marks)
