Much research has been conducted on the effectiveness of the evaluation process that many employers use.  This is an especially interesting topic because in many instances an employee’s performance evaluation is linked to pay raises, promotions, demotions, etc.  For instance, some of you may have a performance evaluation only once a year (if at all) and there is limited information presented on your professional strengths and weaknesses. 


Review Chapter 11 in the text.  Select one of the Performance Appraisal Methods listed in the chapter and conduct scholarly research on the method of your choosing. Using the library databases, find peer-reviewed articles that present information on the performance appraisal method you choose as sources for this paper.


Create an evaluation form for a FICTIONAL company which you might use to perform an employee evaluation.  You can find ideas in your textbook and/or do some independent research.  

You are to create this form on your own.  It must not be from an organization where you work or have worked in the past. 

Please remember, copying from someone else's work and failing to give proper credit is plagiarism.  You CANNOT simply cut and paste a sample form from the internet.  This has occurred in past classes and the students received a zero for this project.  You definitely CAN use the your textbook, the internet, or other sources for ideas for this project, but they must be cited.  

Finally, write a paper that gives information about your method of evaluation, taken from your sources.  Additionally, there should be a section outlining why you believe the evaluation form you created will be effective in evaluating employees.  Please use APA format on your paper and, of course, cite your sources. 

The written component of this assignment should be a minimum of 3 pages (not including the the title and reference pages) and be cited and formatted according to APA Style (see the APA resources included in the Modules Page).  Note that I will deduct points for not meeting the page requirement, there is plenty of information out there.

    • See the link to the FSW Library Research Tutorial.  Be sure to review how to find peer-reviewed (scholarly) articles.  World Wide Web articles will not be accepted [this means do not simply do a Google search for HRP articles and, of course, as always, Wikipedia,, and similar sources are not acceptable sources.]
    • The paper must be written in third person.  See the “Fanslau 1st. 2nd. 3rd. Person Handout” [Provided by Professor M. Fanslau] on the Modules Page. 
    • When writing the paper, please remember that direct quotes are permitted, however, your entire paper cannot be directly quoted from another source. Limit direct quotations to no more than 2 or 3 of the best, if at all.
    • Be sure to include page numbers and the appropriate heading in the header area of the document. 
    • Twelve point, Times New Roman font is required.
    • The textbook may only be cited once in your paper as a source for this assignment
    • Carefully review your paper for spelling, grammatical, and writing style errors.  See the “Fanslau Grammar Tips Handout” [Provided by Professor M. Fanslau] on the Modules Page. 


  • Grading:
  • Papers will automatically be submitted to Turnitin to check for plagiarism.  See the syllabus for information on plagiarism (zero for the assignment and referral to the dean, per FSW policy).
  • At a minimum, your project should have a cover sheet, the form, your narrative, and a reference page.
