Project #64168 - Global Research Paper Rough Draft

Complete this assignment using the following memo format for the transmittal memo (first page of the Week 6 Global Research Paper assignment):

To:               John Smith, Joseph Stevens, and Robert Morris, Partners

From:            Xxxxxxx Xxxxxxxxx

In addition to this first page, write a four-six page, APA-formatted report that includes:

    • APA-formatted title page
    • Executive summary (following the title page)
    • Glossary of terms (if needed).
    • APA Reference page (final page of the report)
    • Appropriate illustrations in addition to the four-six pages of content in the report
  • Single space within paragraphs and skip a space in between paragraphs.
  • Use a Size 12 Times New Roman font.
  • Use headings and sub headings effectively.

Scenario: You are the intern coordinator for an IT consulting company that specializes in working with entrepreneurial global clients. Although the three partners have been impressed with the internship program you set up this year, the international incident in Thailand cost the firm substantial money and generated negative publicity. Upon your return from Thailand, the partners informed you that your program will be eliminated, and they don’t have another position to offer because you are not an IT consultant.

Your only hope to save your job is to convince the partners that you can train the interns before they travel to foreign countries. The partners accepted your proposal.

Robert Morris reminded you again in another private meeting that the report must be written in the APA format, even though this is unusual in corporate writing. He reminds you that he has just enrolled in the MBA program at Casement University. He has to write a research paper using the APA documentation system, and he doesn’t remember how to use it. He asks you to write your business report using this system as a research paper so that he can use it as a model, and you can help him. You feel like you have an ally in your battle to keep your job.

The partners describe very specifically what they want to see in this sample report.

Audience for the Report:

Although the transmittal memo is written to the partners, the audience for the report will be the interns because you will eventually use this report as the material for a training session.

The sections of the report should describe the cultural customs in one nation and show how they are the same or different from our own customs. You have persuaded the partners that this information can be used to train the interns to act appropriately in public and in business meetings.

The partners require that you cover at least three of the following sections in this sample Global Business Report:

  • Nonverbal communication
  • Language
  • Business and casual attire
  • Technology
  • Climate
  • Politics
  • Religion
  • Food
  • Security and crime
  • Attitudes toward foreigners, particularly U.S. citizens

However, other information may be included.

In addition to the one-two pages of words in the memo, include appropriate illustrations. These illustrations may be inserted in the appropriate paragraphs and/or at the end of the memo.

Thesis Statement Check List

Test your thesis statement by asking these questions:

  1. Does my thesis sentence attempt to answer (or at least to explore) a challenging intellectual question?
  2. Is the point I’m making one that would generate discussion and argument, or is it one that would leave people asking, “So what?”
  3. Is my thesis too vague? Too general? Should I focus on some more specific aspect of my topic?
  4. Doest my thesis deal directly with the topic at hand?
  5. Does my thesis indicate the direction of my argument? Does it suggest a structure for my paper?
  6. If I am writing a research paper, does my introductory paragraph set the broader stage for my topic, and does the introduction “place” my thesis within the larger, ongoing scholarly discussion about my topic?
  7. Is the language in my thesis statement vivid, clear, and specific? Is it direct and emphatic, setting up a specific cause and effect situation that will be developed throughout the paper?
