In your “Data Collection Exercise” you observed people in line and computed the mean time between arrivals (MTBA). Assume that your data demonstrated that customers’ arrival rate followed a Poisson distribution with 1/MTBArepresenting “λ”.Also assume that the service rate followed an exponential distribution with a mean (“μ”) equal to 125%of your λ.We willalso assumethat you had an infinite calling population as well as an unrestricted line length. Also, while the work place you observed was likely to have had a multiphase queuing system, we will focus on that portion of the operation for which you gathered data.We will also assume that none of the customers reneged or balked, and that the customers are selected from the line on a first come, first served basis for the single server to serve them. The server is paid \$12 per hour whether theyare waiting on a customer or have no customers.While there should be little to no waiting line, we see that one does exist.Based on customer feedback, the manager believes that for each customer waiting in the line the company loses the equivalent of \$50 per customer per hour for time waiting. Management knows that a long wait can cost them customers in the long run. Your assignment (using the same team you had for the Data Collection exercise), is to write an executive summary providing management with an analysis abouttheir queuing system. Determine their current costs including the server costs and the lost goodwill, all done for an eight hour day. Include in the appendix the results of your Data Collection as well as all calculations. Your report should compare the current situation to two possible changes: (1) adding a second server with each of the two servers having their own line with arriving customers being split evenly between the two lines; (2) adding a second server but with a shared single line with all customers waiting in the one line and then going to the next available serverfollowinga FIFO selection criterion.See attached formulas and multi-channel table.You only need to bring the hard copy of the report to class on May 6, with no electronic versionrequired via email or uploaded to Blackboard.Be sure to have all team member names on the coversheet in order to get credit for the assignment.Be sure to follow the formatting as described in the syllabus.
