Prepare a review, with an abstract, which critically analyses, and provides clear understanding and insight into one of the following topics, as it relates to an Engineering activity, project or enterprise:

1. Energy efficiency, OR
2. The impact of globalisation on engineering enterprises

Your review should be 1400 - 1800 words long, not including the abstract and the references.

The review is to include clear discussion of ONE of the following (or other negotiated) ‘special emphasis’ issues which are relevant to your selected topic. (Nominate this at the front of your review):

  • Project management
  • Risk management
  • Ethical and/or social aspects of engineering
  • Human resource management
  • Organisational culture
  • Workplace Health and Safety
  • Environmental / sustainable development
  • Other aspects

Note that:

  • You may select a situation or activity which is in the past or which is current.
  • Your review MUST include evidence of research into the topic. In the case of risk management, make sure that you include reference to the relevant national/industrial standards or similar documents.
  • Your review should clearly identify the internal and external circumstances, events or decisions that positively or adversely affect(ed) the success of the activity, project or enterprise.
  • Make sure that you use reference material to provide sound evidence in support of the arguments put forward in your essay. In particular, check for the existence of relevant national or International standards.
  • Case studies may be appropriate. If using one from your own place of work, be careful to portray the situation in a positive manner.
  • Your review may be informed by other material presented as part of this course. Extra credit will be awarded for describing and justifying ways in which you could have made a positive contribution to the activity you are reviewing.
  • It is essential that all externally sourced material be clearly referenced within the text of your essay. Failure to acknowledge other material will be penalised.  Please format your references using the Harvard referencing system.

Your review must include an abstract or summary. Be sure you understand the purpose of an abstract and ensure that it contains adequate specific information to be of value to the reader. In particular, include the key findings or outcomes of your investigation.
