# Project #13851 - Biostats

Because cardiac death rates appear to increase after heavy snowfalls, an experiment was designed to compare cardiac demands of snow shoveling to those of using an electric snow thrower. Ten subjects cleared tracts of snow using both methods, and their maximum heart rates were recorded during both activities. The following results were obtained:
Manual Snow Shoveling Max Heart Rates: n=10   x̅= 175, s= 15
Electric Snow Thrower Max Heart Rates: n=10,  x̅= 124, s= 18

a.) Find the 95% confidence interval estimate of the population mean for those people who use an electric snow thrower.

2.) A study was conducted to determine whether there were significant differences between medical students admitted through special programs (such as affimative action) and medical student admitted with regular admissions criteria. It was found that the graduation rate was 94% for the medical students admitted through special programs (based on data from the Journal of the American Medical Association)

Calculate the binomial probability:

a)   If 10 of the students from the special programs are randomly selected, find the probability that at least 9 of them graduated

n “The Problem Error of a Mean” by William Gosset published in 1908, the following values were listed for the yields of head corn in pounds per acre. These values results from using seeds that were kiln-dried.   SHOW IN EXCEL DOCUMENT

a.) construct a 95% confidence interval estimate of the mean yield.

b.) Compare the result to this confidence interval found from using samples of seed that were not kiln-dried: 1611.3 <u < 2071.7
