Everyday Applications of Equations and Formulas

Believe it or not, we all use algebraic thinking, equations, and formulas almost every day. Give an example of a math formula or equation with which you are familiar and explain it to the class. You are welcome to use an existing formula or equation, or you can write your own equation to model a situation (real or imagined). (**HINT:** It might help to think about some of the specific courses you have taken in your program of study and any equations/formulas you used there.) If you can’t think of an equation, you can always research one on the web. If you find information on a website (or another source), please list your reference using APA format as you will want to avoid plagiarism.

Make sure you include all of the following information:

- What is the formula or equation and what is it used for?

- What does each variable in the equation represent?

- Provide a specific example of the equation or formula applied to a problem. Work out the problem for us and provide a solution. (Be sure to plug your own numbers into this equation//formulas here!)
